Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighbourhood within the West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" spot. The West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a vast part that stretches from Lachine up to the west. Many times, it is credited as the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time in the city was brief. Brugel began her life in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. Her early ambition was to be a professional dancer. However, a growth spurt meant that she literally outgrew her dance partners. In an article released by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall while wearing heels. Once I outgrew male partners I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting and in the case of Brugel it was a suggestion by an instructor in drama at high school which pushed her in the right direction. The teacher suggested that she try her hand at a character in the annual school production. The student tried it out, and ended up playing the character of Anne of Green Gables. It was her turn to be awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program which she completed in 2000 with a Bachelor in Fine Arts. In the last 20 years she has had her perform in more than 60 shows and films. The most well-known role was as Rita (shown in the video below) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian participant for Season 1 of the series and only seen occasionally.
